Dr. Jim Osiwala is trained to spot the signs of mild traumatic brain injury, and help each patient to a successful recovery. Dr. Osiwala uses a specific assessment tools to evaluate, assess, and manage concussions in athletes with the end goal of safely returning the athlete back to the sport. This assessment tools are used to evaluate symptoms, physical signs, Glasgow Coma Scale, sideline assessment using Maddocks score, cognitive assessment, balance, and coordination.

A concussion is a brain injury caused by a direct blow to the head, neck or face. Because of this fact, there is a good chance that a misalignment of the cervical spine is caused in conjunction with the concussion. Dr. Osiwala can evaluate whether his patients demonstrate signs of neck injuries associated with concussions and provide the necessary treatment to alleviate neck pain and cervicogenic headaches.
Additional guidelines Dr. Osiwala will give for concussion protocol include no alcohol, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and sleep agents should be taken. Use Tylenol for pain if necessary. Do not drive until you can return to the sport.
